3️⃣ Thoughts for the week #03

Earlier this week, well technically earlier this week — it feels more like 3 weeks ago — I tweeted that it was surely somehow not only still Wednesday. That tells you all you need to know about how my “week” has gone. ⏰

I got a new keyboard and I love it. It’s a combination of the best bits of apple keyboards of the past, with a numeric keypad which I have really missed. It’s wireless and my preferred colour when it comes to keyboard — black. I really can’t recommend it enough, it’s a real joy to type on. It most certainly wasn’t cheap (altho I got it from eBay for quite a bit below retail price), but I’m already thinking it was worth it. ⌨️

I learned of Home Assistant this week. We have quite a lot of “smart home” stuff and I’ve never been quite happy with how all the pieces don’t seem to fit together. I’m hopeful that experimenting with this (open source!) project might help me feel happier. 🏡

In a few years’ time this sentence will likely mean absolutely nothing, but for now, it makes sense: I have a remix of a sea shanty stuck in my head and I’m not mad about it. 🏴‍☠️

I love typography is consistently one of the prettiest, wallet-worrying sites that I know of. I’m very much not a designer, but even I can appreciate the LiebeHeide font which I discovered from the annual “my favorite fonts” post. 🖋

I haven’t fully dived into exactly what this might mean for performance on WordPress sites – especially those with lots of blocks provided by 3rd party plugins – but this post on conditional JavaScript loading is something I need to dig into. ⑂

Because I’m in the process of building a suite of plugins (nope, didn’t feel right to release the post this week either, but I suspect next week or the week after might feel better) I’ve been interested in plugin dependencies. There’s a few options out there, but WP Dependency Installer from Andy Fragen is where I’m leaning towards at the moment. 🧒🏻

BC COVID-19 Vaccine Count: ~1.35% and ~1.23% Canada-wide. Also happy that vaccine has now arrived, and been distributed, in each province and territory. 👩🏼‍⚕️ 💉
